Family FAQs

Will my child’s medical information be protected?

Yes! We are required by law to keep your healthcare information protected and will do so in this study.

What if my child hasn’t seen her/his primary care doctor in a while?

No problem, the huddle may be a great way to reconnect everyone.

Will this huddle delay my child’s discharge?

No! Prior to discharge it is common for your inpatient care team to contact your primary care team and formulate a plan for your child going forward. This huddle helps facilitate that conversation and include others, such as your family and specialists to discuss these vital steps toward getting your child home.

Do I need a follow-up appointment scheduled in-person to do a post-discharge huddle?

No! The post-discharge huddle can be done without an appointment or if the appointment is via telehealth.

What platform is used for the huddle?

We use Microsoft Teams since it allows us to securely talk with patients, families, and everyone on the healthcare team.

What if my child doesn’t have a PCP?

Please talk with your inpatient team who can help identify nearby offices that are taking new patients. This may complicate scheduling the huddle, but we are willing to try!

Do I have to download the app to use Teams?

No. One way to use Teams is through downloading the app, but it can also be run from your browser using a computer.

Do I have to have a Teams account to join the call?

No. Teams has a guest feature that should allow us to add you to the call. We do recommend joining a few minutes early to allow for troubleshooting in case you run into problems.

How long do the huddles last?

Huddles most commonly last 10-15 minutes.

Do I have to be on camera for the call?

We encourage this as it makes discussions better, but it is not required.

Does this cost me any money?

No. This study is currently supported by a research grant and is free of charge!
